Welcome to WGMS Math. It is great to have you in our growth-based learning community. This will be where you find the monthly newsletter, which will be automatically emailed to you if you filled in this Parent Form, including our projected content studies for the month, the problem of the month, the mathematician of the month and more. Filling in the Parent Form also signs you up for a positive "Great Effort!" check in each month via a shared google doc. If you would like 2-Day reminders for the PoM, MoM, EAs (see below), the midterm, the final and any other high point project please fill in that portion of the form as well. Lastly, if you would like a grade report sent home weekly, please fill in that portion of the form as well.
*Grade reports will be sent home following the grading of each 7th Grade Math Embedded Assessment (and as needed for Algebra), please sign that you have seen it and have your student return this to me within 2 academic days. If your student is earning a D or F on the current EA or as of the current EA, a second paper will be included to sign, requesting attendance in tutoring and allowing a place for you to request three possible touch-base meeting times and how you would like for me to respond to select the meeting.
Syllabus
Here is a link to my 7th Grade Algebra and 7th Grade Math syllabi. While all communications are in English, our school site and SJUSD offer translation services in support of student learning, please do call if this will support your student's math learning success.
Notebook
I have uploaded a copy of the scanned notebook pages for 7th Grade Algebra Notebook and 7th Grade Math Notebook; the links Are found in the toolbar at the top of the page under the corresponding class course title.
Quizzes (Weekly)
Quizzes will be taken each Thursday. (Quizzes may be retaken in 7th grade Math but not in Algebra) Pop-Quizzes may be assigned at any time and can not be retaken. All SJUSD guidelines for absences are observed in class.
Assessments (by SpringBoard section - Embedded Assessment)
Embedded Assessments (EAs) are taken following the completion of each section. Guidelines and format vary depending on the course.
PoM & MoM (Monthly)
Each month both a Problem of the Month (PoM) report and a Mathematician of the Month (MoM) report can be turned in beginning on the first day of the month and are due by the last (academic) day of the month. Students may also attend tutoring times to see guidance and feedback on the current PoM and MoM reports on any academic day in tutoring before the last day of that specific month. The report length is about one page and would most likely be easily completed in one tutoring session even if a student needs support. Any late reports automatically earn reduced credit (less 10% per each additional day following the last day of the month, excluding weekends. All absences follow the SJUSD guidelines for additional time).
Focus: process communication, solution pathway, visual representation.
Focus: historical context, mathematical understanding of the concepts, and the historical, current and individual student/ personal relevance.
NWEA/ MAP
This growth based measure will be given 3-4 times during the school year. A quick Google Slides overview is given here NWEA/ MAP.
We look forward to sharing our classroom with you at Back-To-School night. If you are interested in contributing to extra supplies for our classroom, check the Classroom Wish List and email us. Thank you for your ongoing support at home for our students as they grow into realizing that they are amazing math learner and person that you have always seen.
Warm regards,
Julia Leeson
